by MBA Press

The wait is over. MBA Basketball has returned as Conference Play begins this weekend, January 7-8, 2023. Teams will start their competitive path to Wichita, KS for the 2023 MBA Playoffs, Eastern and Western Conference Finals and ultimately the MBA Finals Championship Game. The MBA had the chance to speak with Conference Commissioner Jason Lafasciano as he is on the eve of his 7th successful season as a conference commissioner. “This is more about the teams and players getting back to playing military basketball post COVID-19.”

The Conference season will open this weekend with games held at Fort Benning, GA, Camp Pendleton, CA and Fort Irwin, CA. In the ACMBC, Fort Benning will host Fort Campbell and South Carolina Military Basketball. This will be the first season for South Carolina Military Basketball led by recent MBA Hall of Fame Inductee, Vincent Williams. Fort Benning and Fort Campbell will have a rematch of the 2022 MBA Eastern Conference Finals where Fort Campbell won in the final seconds of the Championship Game.

Out west, for the first time in recent memory, 3 Marine Teams will play each other in regular season basketball without being in a Tournament as Camp Pendleton host Miramar and Yuma to open the season. This will be the first year of conference military basketball for Miramar and Yuma as the PWMBC continues to grow as a dominant conference committed to installation basketball. Remaining in the west but just a short distance North, Fort Irwin will host Nellis AFB, Edwards AFB and Vandenberg AFB. Nellis AFB comes into this weekend the #1 Top Team in MBA Pre-Season Rankings. Edwards AFB, looks to return to the MBA Playoff picture from 2021 and Vandenberg is coming back to conference play for the first time in years.

With almost 20 games being played this weekend, Military Basketball is returning to form and the resiliency provided to those who serve will be on display with superb talent, showcasing the military athlete. Best wishes to all teams as they start the path to competitive post-season play.
